Pilars

Pillars is a short documentary in collaboration with the peace mediator Juan Garrigues Tena.

The film explores the role of war tourism in the process of reconciliation in Sri Lanka and how tourism has become a tool of surveillance in the defeated areas.

Beach resort ruled by the army, armed forces barracks occupy prime beach locations, memorials monuments in a Soviet-style grandeur propagating the “victory” in symbolic locations for the tamils. Pillars wants to portrait, in an observational style, how after 10 years of the end of the war a new battle has emerged in the island: the battle for memory.

The project has been selected to be develop during the thematic residency «Truth and reconciliation 2019» from Santa Fe Art Institute (EU).

In research phase.
