María Molina Peiró is a Spanish filmmaker, artist and researcher. Through hybrid documentary, essay film and audiovisual installations, her work explores, among other subjects, the tensions between nature and technology, faith and progress, exploration and exploitation, and the blurred boundaries between the living and the non-living.

Her work has been presented internationally at museums and institutions such as the National Gallery of Art (Washington), Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin), the Louvre Museum (Paris, in the framework of Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin), the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA, Seoul), EYE Filmmuseum (Amsterdam), MACBA (Barcelona), the National Gallery of Art (Vilnius), the Science Museum (London) and LOOP Barcelona, among many others. Her films have been screened at major international festivals including the International Film Festival Rotterdam (Tiger Competition), CPH, IDFA, BFI London Film Festival, Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, BELDOCS, Taiwan International Documentary Film Festival (TIDF), IndieLisboa, Seville European Film Festival, Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin, Festival dei Popoli and Málaga Film Festival, among many others.

Her work has received numerous awards, including the Silver Biznaga for Best Director at the Málaga Film Festival, the Best Film Award at Olhar de Cinema, the La Casa Encendida Audiovisual Award, the Radar Award at Curtocircuito and the Grand Jury Prize at Videoformes.

She graduated cum laude from the MA Artistic Research through Cinema at the Netherlands Film Academy, where she received the Amsterdam University of the Arts Award for Best Master’s Project. She also holds an MFA in Computer Arts from the School of Visual Arts (New York) and a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Seville.

Alongside her artistic practice, she has taught, given masterclasses and mentored projects at institutions including the Netherlands Film Academy, Leiden University, Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen, KASK School of Arts and Sound Image Culture (Brussels). She has also curated film programmes for the Instituto Cervantes in the Netherlands.
